Reclamation

Starts With You

By reclaiming our identities through traditional arts and practices, we help to heal everything around us.

Join us on a journey of self-discovery, history and an investigation into our roots by exploring the origins and teachings of the Ribbon Skirt. Originally brought to you by Indigenous Nouveau and MNBC, The Ribbonskirt Project is an avenue for Métis and Indigenous Individuals to learn about the history and origins of this iconic piece of this regalia and how it links us to both our Indigenous and non-Indigenous ancestry, and allowing a place for conversation in an effort to negate lateral violence and misunderstanding by reinforcing kinship ties and shared traditional skills. Though the initial launch of the project, January 2022- May 2022, was directed at Métis Individuals residing in B.C., this project is inclusive, not exclusive. With the support of my local and online community, I am happy to announce that I have been able to open the project up to all Indigenous People in need of the project’s resources.

The Project Begins: The Origin of the Ribbon Skirt Project

Join me as I explore my own Identity through the arts and land-based practices. We will be learning skills, history and connecting to community towards the goal of personal Reclamation from a Métis perspective.
